Protests for 'Amanat': Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit forced to return




Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit showed up this afternoon at the large protest in Delhi called in memory of the 23-year-old student who died in a Singapore hospital from the horrific injuries she incurred when she was gang-raped on a bus two weeks ago. However, as she lit a candle, the chief minister was surrounded by demonstrators and then taken away by her security.

At sunset of 29 December 2012, more than a thousand candles offered a sombre glow at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, the designated location for protests against the death of a young medical student, who was gang-raped on a moving bus in Delhi two weeks ago.

Delhi gang-rape protesters being removed forcibly at India gate




A day after the extraordinary protests in the national capital that saw protesters clashing with the police right outside Rashtrapati Bhavan, section 144 was imposed in the New Delhi district early on the morning of 23 December 2013. This prohibits a gathering of more than four people at one place.

Huge crowd at India Gate as gang-rape victim fights for life




After brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old student in a moving bus Delhi on 16 December 2012, protests demanding safety for women are becoming louder each day. Huge crowds have gathered at India Gate and Raisina Hill in New Delhi on 22 December 2012 demanding tougher punishment for rapists and more attention to women's safety by the government and the police.

Delhi Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters who were marching towards the Rashtrapati Bhavan demanding justice for the 23-year-old gang rape victim. The protesters, however, braved the water cannons in the winter chill and refused to leave the high-security area. They continued to chant slogans demanding justice for the 23-year-old victim.
